This week was another busy one in the garden. We whipped up some salsa verde with a few classes:
And finished our calendula salve with the fourth grade, to go along with their unit on Herbal Medicine:
(After the calendula petals soaked in the olive oil for two weeks, we squeezed the oil out into a pan to heat. We then add shavings of beeswax until the consistency of creme or lotion. It can then be used as you would any other moisturizer. Calendula has healing properties.)
Because of all the rain the last couple weeks, our classes haven’t been able to visit the garden. This week we made up for lost time.
The kindergartners came out to pick snap peas.
The first graders picked their second harvest of their snap peas and some carrots.
The second graders harvested their peas and carrots.
The third graders harvested and cooked up their cauliflower.
And the fourth graders started the process of making calendula salve.

Last week, many of the dual language classes visited our Learning garden. Each class was assigned a raised bed to plant fall vegetables in. After examining the seeds to note the different sizes and shapes, they spread the seeds into the proper rows.
We planted lettuce, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, cilantro, peas, and some even planted marigolds.
They will be back next week to find out if any sprouts have pushed through the soil. Meanwhile, I will be watering and making painted signs for each class bed. Come join us! We’re in the garden every Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:30-11am, unless were called out sick:)
