Grand View Elementary School has had a Dual Language Program for 20 years and we’re throwing ourselves a big Fiesta on Saturday, June 11th from 12pm – 3pm. Mark your calendars!
All the classes will perform dances in elaborate costumes, and we’re very excited to announce our special guest, Jose-Luis Orozco, who will perform at the culmination of the show!
The PTA will be selling refreshments, including tacos, popcorn, nachos and drinks as a fundraiser – and we’ll also be selling special Anniversary T-shirts on the day.
We hope to see you on June 11th supporting our school and celebrating our Dual Language Spanish Immersion Program!
Grand View Blvd. Elementary School, 3951 Grand View Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066 (310) 390-3618 for more information.

Wonderful! I look forward to the celebration! I’ll be hosting a booth where I’ll have some of my bilingual picture books available for sale. I’ll be signing copies of Floating on Mama’s Song (which I wrote) and The Runaway Piggy (which I illustrated).
It’s all very exciting ! ! ! Especially the performance by Jose-Luis Orozco! One question: do you think he’ll be available for the 30th anniversary in ten years? — H ♥ ☮

What a great celebration of 20 years of helping children become bilingual and biliterate. I was thinking back on that first year when Paula and I started with the program. Talk about jumping in with both feet! It was sometimes a bumpy ride, but the students and their families we worked with were amazing! I have connected with a good number of students via Facebook, and it is so wonderful to hear about their lives since Grand View. They have gone out and: gone to college, gotten married, had children, and so many other amazing things.
Our first 2 classes will always have a special place in my heart since I had the privilege of working with them as Kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grade students. They were an incredible group of students, and many are still friends, or have become friends, again, via the ease of social networking and the internet.
I could write a book about the experiences of being a dual language educator, with most of the material coming from Grand View. It is interesting how life goes full circle, as I am once again teaching kindergarten in a dual language program. I have so many fond memories of the time I spent at Grand View with families and staff.
I won’t bore you all with the details, but I want to thank all of the families who trusted us with the time spent with your children. It was a privilege and and honor to work with each and everyone of you. I am so proud, as you must be of the accomplishments that your children have made in this world.
Congratulations to the dual language program at Grand View on celebrating 20 years of providing students with the type of education that all students deserve. Enjoy the celebration.
